Onkwehón:we - "The Original People"

I created this collection to celebrate the continued strength of the Onkwehon:we people.

Onkwehon:we in the Mohawk language means "The Original People" or "The First People" referring to all Native American peoples. It is important that we recognize that the Native American peoples were the original people of North America so that we may begin to understand how they came to be where they are today. Westernized society teaches us to believe that Christopher Columbus "discovered" North America. This is FALSE. He was not the first person to set foot on the "New World" as they say. We were here and we are still here and although we have encountered countless efforts to erase our culture: residential schools, the 60's scoop, racism, cultural genocide, the indian act, etc.

We are resilient.
